Maruti Suzuki Eeco Overview
Maruti Suzuki successfully forayed in the MPV segment with their first launch, Omni, in 1985, followed by another launch, Versa, in 2001, with the vision of occupying the family vehicle segment in India. Omni became an instant hit, where as Versa turned out to be a flop show due to its tacky design.
Versa was discontinued and a redesigned, low cost version, Eeco was launched to suit the needs of lower Indian middle-class families with 5-seater and 7-seater options. The 7-seater is available in just one basic variant and the 5-seater is available in four variants – basic five-seater, five-seater with A/C and heater, five-seater with heater and CNG, and five-seater with A/C, heater and CNG. Launched in a wide range of six different colours – superior white, bright red, metallic blue blaze, metallic glistening grey, metallic midnight black and metallic silky silver, it is available in petrol and CNG versions for cost-conscious buyers. The CNG 5-Seater AC makes it an ideal choice for large families, car pooling and mini-taxi, and assures comfort and easy drivability. It comes with 2 years or 40,000 km manufacturer warranty.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco Style
Maruti Suzuki Eeco straight away reminds me of the Versa. A nicely placed, clear lens headlight gives a good impression whereas the black bumper is reduces the images. The front door opening is large and any person can enter easily. The sliding of rear door is quite easy and similar to that of the Omni without much change. The rear door and the design of tail lamp are somewhat simple and gives a good impression. Again the rear bumper resembles an extended version of Omni.
Once we sit on the front seat, we can feel a comfort which is absent in the Omni which used to be increased in excessive heat developed during a long run. With the Eeco the ride quality has been much improved and especially steering though manual is as good as power steering. The second row seats are spacious and 3 passengers can be accommodated. The large leg space for the second row and the huge luggage space in the 5 seater version make it a highly useful car.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco Space
The interiors get a familiar two-tone Maruti treatment in shades of beige and grey with artificial leather seat upholstery. The car provides ample leg room and head room essential for an MPV.
The front seats get an integrated headrest. Moving over to the instrument panel, the digital meter cluster gets illuminated with amber light. Maruti has positioned this MPV as a basic utilitarian – even the music player is not part of the standard feature’s list. The Eeco also misses out on all the safety features due to pricing. The vehicle comes with two years or 40,000km manufacturer warranty.
The Eeco comes in five-seater and seven-seater options. The seven seater is available in only one basic variant, whereas the five-seater is available in four variants – basic five-seater, five-seater with A/C plus heater, five-seater with heater and CNG, five-seater with A/C plus heater and the CNG. The Eeco is sold in six different colours in India namely Superior White, Metallic Midnight Black, Metallic Silky Silver, Bright Red, Metallic Blue Blaze and Metallic Glistening Grey.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco Riding
Though equipped with manual steering, it still ensures smooth ride but due to short wheelbase, even the slightest jerks are felt in the cabin, especially on the rear seats. For the first time, a Maruti Suzuki vehicle has been introduced with DSA (Diagonal Shift Assistance) for smoother gear shifting and the front is supported by McPherson strut suspension with dual rate coil springs for superior handling and efficient driving.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco Safety
Eeco lacks safety features with no airbags or middle and rear three-point seat belts. The car is prone to thefts as there is no central locking, anti-lock braking system and brake assist. However, the braking system scores points with the installation of ventilation disc along with the brake drum at the rear end, which provides immense power to stop the car even if it’s moving at higher speed.
